What cinema means to you

“Students of Cinema” is an experiment in creating a shared space for like-minded film lovers, whether that be creatives, scholars, or simply curious minds!

Our primary goal is simple: to just bring people together. It’s so hard to meet people these days!

How that goal expresses itself is the fun part: weekly book clubs, film screenings, writing sessions, article publications: you name it!

But… I tend to be over-ambitious.

For now, a simple book club! Anyone can participate! The readings will comprise themselves around film scholarship! Whether that be books, articles, excerpts, anything we can read to discuss what “Cinema” is, what it has been, and what it aspires to be!

For a sense of the kinds of works, it may include:

  • Andre Bazin’s What Is Cinema?
  • Bordwell’s The Classical Hollywood Cinema
  • Biskind’s Easy Riders, Raging Bull…
  • Wilkin’s American Eccentric Cinema
  • Eisenstein’s Film Form
  • Shiel’s Italian Neorealism: Rebuilding the Cinematic City
  • Greene’s The French New Wave: A New Look
  • Whatever you bring to the group

That said, if these discussions devolve into just hanging out and talking movies: well, I’m all about it!
